Terrible Price of War
CESSNOCK FAMILY'S TRAGEDY
On Friday last Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hogan, of King Street, Cessnock, received word that their son, Sgt. -Navigator Austin John Hogan, of the
R.A.A.A.F , previously reported missing was now reported killed In air operations. Jack, as he was known by his many friends in the district, was loved by all for his splendid, personality and even temperament, and keen sense of humour. After winning a bursary at the
Convent School, he continued his education at De la Salles Colleges, Armidale for five years.
At the time of enlistment, Jack was on the staff of the Auditor General's Office, Sydney. After leaving Australia, Jack graduated in Canada, and from Canada he went to England, whore he spent twelve months.
Len Hogan, of the R.A.A.F. the elder son, died In Melbourne only three weeks previous to his brother's death.
There was only a few years difference in their ages. Jack would have celebrated his 24th birthday on the 3rd August.
The sympathy of Cessnock citizens goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Hogan and their only daughter, Mary, in their great sorrow.
