O.S. Francis Roy Nichols, of Elderslie, was a member of the crew of the H.M.A.S. Sydney when she disappeared after her recent naval engagement. O.S. Nichols was the youngest of a family of 10. His parents are Mr and Mrs. G.N. Nichols of Elderslie, who have another son serving in the forces, and a third has been repatriated. O.S. Nichols was 17 when he joined the Navy a year ago, and he had been in the Sydney most of the time.

Wireman Thomas Enright Nicol 24 of 2 Gardner st. Richmond where he lived with his aunt was educated at Melbourne High School afterwhich he joined the staff of R J Oehr and Church, Chartered Accountants. He had reached final stages of his accountancy examinations. He was a member of Williamstown Royal Yacht Club and secretary of the Sailing Punt Club, Williamstown. He enlisted in the RAN in July 1940 and after training at Flinders Naval Depot was drafted to H.M.A.S. Sydney on February 24 1941.
