A.I.F. 2/31 Battalion, Australian Infantry Died (Killed in Action, England) 10-11-1940 aged 35years Son of Patrick Joseph & Elizabeth Mary Feely. Townsville Daily Bulletin 18-12-1940 Private Joseph Patrick Feely, of the A.I.F, whose death is reported overseas, due to enemy bombing, enlisted In Cairns and left there on April 3 this year. He stated he was born in Croydon, New South Wales, was single and aged 35. He went from Mareeba to Cairns to enlist, and stated he had a sister residing in that town. |

Royal Australian Air Force No. 10 Squadron Died (Ground Battle) 30-6-1944 aged 33years Son of Harold Edward & Annis Selina Ferguson Husband of Doreen Ferguson, Goulburn, New South Wales Goulburn Evening Post 5 July 1944 GOULBURN MAN. - Pays Supreme Sacrifice Mrs E. Ferguson, of Sloane Street has been officially advised that her husband 3913 Flight-Sergeant Oswald Edward Ferguson, lost his life as the result of enemy bombing, whilst on leave in Southern England on Friday June 30. Sgt. Ferguson, who is the son of Mr: and Mrs. H. E. Ferguson, of 176 Sloane Street, had nearly five years' active service. He landed in England with the first Australian Squadron in November 1939. "Os," as he was popularly known, had been mentioned in Despatches, this culminating in his being awarded the British Empire Medal of which Mrs. Ferguson was officially advised. Flt.-Sgt. Ferguson, though born in Goulburn, is shown as having enlisted in Auburn. Mourning his loss also is his son Graham, nine years of age who had only turned three when his father volunteered for service. For nearly six years Graham has regarded his daddy as his hero. Sgt. Ferguson was a typical Australian, and his name will go down among those who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the fight for freedom. Mrs. J.P. Bourke of Auburn, and Mrs. H. Carney of Golbourn are sisters. His only brother Frank died a few years ago. |

The funeral of the late Sergeant Wireless Air Gunner Tom Illenden Fielding. R.A.A.F., youngest son of Mrs. E. A. Fielding, of Coroneagh street, Penguin, took place at Brookwood Cemetery, Woking, County Surrey, England, this month. Sergeant Fielding was killed as the result of an enemy, bombing raid on England on June 12. He was 24 years of age. |

Northern Star (Lismore) 28-4-1942 Killed In Aircraft Accident Pilot Officer Ronald James Finch, son of Mrs C Riley, of The Rock, Condong, has been reported killed in an aircraft accident in England on April 17. The aircraft overshot the landing ground and failed to maintain height. The late Pilot Officer Finch was educated at the Murwillumbah High School and Armidale College. He left Australia six months ago, after training at Amberley and Archerfield. Before enlisting he was a teacher at the Casino intermediate High School for six years. |

"Blue-Eyed Leader" Reported Killed Wing Commander Basil Howard, D.F.C., of Seven Hills-named the "blue-eyed leader" by villagers near his station in England is reported to have been killed in a non-operational flight off the coast of Essex. Wing Commander Howard, who was in charge of a R.A.A.F. squadron at the time, had been overseas for four years. During D-Day operations last year, he shot down two German aircraft near Cherbourg. He was awarded the D.F.C. last February for "skill, courage; and devotion to duty". Aged 30, he was engaged to a charming Brisbane girl, Miss Margaret Mee. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Howard, of Grantham Road, Seven Hills. Of his two brothers, Gerald and Albert, the latter also are serving in the R.A.A.F. |
