Plymouth Naval Memorial
Across the seas where the waves ebb & flow
There is no place for poppies to grow
It's the place where our Sailors sleep.

NAVAL RATINGS DROWNED SYDNEY,
Tuesday.
When a pinnace from the sloop Lismore foundered a quarter mile from the jetty in an Australian port yesterday ten ratings were thrown into the sea and three are presumed to have been drowned. They were Edward Joseph Dunn (engineroom artificer), Thomas Lee (able seaman), and John Irving (able seaman). A strong wind was blowing and a choppy sea running at the time of the disaster. It is believed the launch was struck by two or three big waves in quick succession, which broke over the bows and swamped it.
The owner of a small pleasure yacht and two young women who saw the mishap, put off and effected the rescue of the survivors, two of whom were hauled aboard in an unconscious condition, but recovered under artificial respiration methods.

NAVAL PINNACE FOUNDERS.
Three Men Drowned.
When a pinnace from the sloop Lismore foundered a quarter of a mile from the jetty in an Australian port at 12.20 a.m. yesterday, ten ratings were thrown into the sea, and three were drowned. The victims were:
Engine-room Artificer Edward Joseph Dunn, PM2230, Victoria.
Able Seaman Torn Lee, 17704, N.S.W.
Able Seaman John Francis Irving,17214, N.S.W.
At midnight, ten ratings boarded a motor pinnace to be taken about half a mile, and when the journey began no one on board suspected that they were in any danger. The pinnace foundered when it was a quarter of a mile from the shore, and the ten men were thrown into deep water. Some of them were strong swimmers, and they were able to care for themselves. Others were picked up by the ketch Viking, the crew of which was attracted by the shouts of the men for help.
In the moonlight, the ketch rescued all the men who could be seen in the sea, but when a muster was made later the three men were missing, Yesterday a search was made for their bodies, but so far none has been recovered.
