Plymouth Naval Memorial
Across the seas where the waves ebb & flow
There is no place for poppies to grow
It's the place where our Sailors sleep.

BRISBANE MAN MISSING ?
Freighter Gunner Able Seaman Ross Charles Cole, 24, single, of Brisbane, who was in charge of a naval gun installed in a British freighter of 5242 tons, is reported missing. The freighter was sunk on September 17.
This information was received yesterday from the British Admiralty by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cole. Emma Street, Eagle Junction. Able Seaman Cole was a naval reservist, and on the outbreak of war volunteered for active service. After a three-week course of instruction in Melbourne he joined the freighter in Sydney on November 22 last, and sailed to England. This ship was one of four freighters in Narvik Fjord (Norway), which narrowly escaped from the German advance in that area. The freighters carried 20,000 tons of iron ore to England. Before he enlisted Able Seaman Cole was employed in the new business department of the A.M.P. Society. He was associated with staff sporting activities, and was a member of the Brisbane Rowing Club.
