KILLED IN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT
SEGT.-PILOT (PHIL. DEVINE)
Word was received by Mr. and Mrs, O. R. Devine "Wandabindle", Daymar on Monday, that their son, Sergeant-Pilot Phil. Devine, had been
killed, as a result of an aircraft accident, while serving with the R.A.A.F. in England.
Phil. Devine enlisted In the R.A.F. over two years ago and after passing out of the training school with the rank of Sergeant, he was selected as a Fighter Pilot and left for England to complete his training. News of his unfortunate end, cast a gloom over the Weengallon District, where he was known as one of their finest sports. He represented that district at Cricket, Football, Tennis, and we have seen him don the gloves in a boxing match for the sake of the sport. Besides taking part In the sporting side, he was also one of the stalwarts in the administration, and has been Honorary Secretary of various Clubs and Functions in that centre.
He was young, when he met his end, only 22 years of age. Educated at Downloads College, he grew to be a man who had many friends, all of whom will indeed be sorry to hear that one so young should have to pay the sacrifice of freedom. His bereaved parents, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of all, but with their "sadness, their must "be a pride that their son and brother" died that the Freedom which they have enjoyed will continue for future generations— no man can do more. Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers and one sister.
