His ship was taken over by the Admiralty and sunk as a blockship at Anking Harbour, China on the 9th December 1941. The only casualty recorded from this ship was that of the ship’s Chief Officer whose death occurred on the 11th September 1945. According to the Deaths at Sea Register he had been held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese and after his release was put aboard the Hospital Ship Oxfordshire, where he died from “pulmonary tuberculosis”.His body was committed to sea and therefore he is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
